Inscribed in graphite, and some pen, in black/brown ink, verso, upper center: "The House in the Rock is called [? Indian symbols] Gal Ge which is House of Stone. | The [illeg.] edifice on the right hand is a Tomb covering the Bones of Budu, the deity worshiped by the Singalize. | The name is [? Indian symbols] Vehera, one of these Tombs is generally to be found near a Temple of | Budu [? Indian symbols] which Temple is called [? Indian symbols] Vihare. The one has often been confounded with the | other-...on one side of the Rock in the [charring?] there is a figure of Budu | cut out of the Rock. in a recumbent posture, measuring eight paces. | A Scene between Galle & Matura, about six miles from Galle.; inscribed in graphite, verso, lower right: "1% wichaims no. 83"
