The man on the right of the group wearing the Order of the Bath is Thomas Watson-Wentworth, Baron Malton, later 1st Marquis of Rockingham; the woman seated near the center is his wife, Mary Finch, and the rest of the party consists of their five children, a nurse, three of the baroness's sisters and two of her brothers. Thanks to Baron Malton's influence as a powerful landowner, both of his brothers-in-law sat as Whig members of parliament. At the time of the portrait he was engaged in rebuilding his country house, the colossal Wentworth Woodhouse in Yorkshire.
