Inscribed on verso in graphite: "An abiding memory of the summer of 1995 is sitting by our | campercan (which we'd been encouraged to drive on the | beach) while listening to the Tes[...] in glorious, warm, | Danish sunshine. Life, I remember thinking, doesn't get | much better than this. | We were in the tiny coastal town of Løkken, specifically to | see part of Nazi Germany's 'Atlantikwall' (Atlantic wall), | a line of fortifications built along the western edge of | mainland Europe to protect against Allied invasion. | The crumbling monoliths stretching far into the distance | were a strange sight, made even more bizarre by a local | festival commissioning artists to transform some of the | bunkers into sculptures. | I'm still undecided if this photograph, or the one I | chose to use in 'The Shipping Forecast' book, is the | better picture."; lower left: "This print was made to raise funds for | the student / alumni books celebrating 21 years of photography at the U.O.B. 2013"; lower center: "3/12"
