Lettered, center right: "Cassiobury Park | Here on the Grand Junction Canal the gaily painted | 'narrow boats' pass on their leisurely way between green | banks to the Midlands. You can follow them along the | pleasant tow-path, or walk across the golf-course to the | silent shade of Whippendell Woods. Stations: Watford | (Metropolitan Lane) or Watford High Street (Bakerloo | Line) Green Line coaches 706, 707, 708, 719. | Hatfield House | In Hatfield Old Palace the first Queen Elizabeth spent | several years, a prisoner of her sister Mary Tudor. | She left a pair of silk stockings, gloves, and a garden hat to remind the modern visitor that she was woman | as well as Queen. Green Line Coaches 716, 716, Many | other great houses in London's countryside are open to | the public and easily reached by London Transport. | The 'Country Houses' leaflet gives full details. Some, | including Hatfield, are visited by London Transport's Conducted Coach Tours. An illustrated leaflet describing | the tours is also available. Both leaflets can be had | free from the Public Relations Officer. | Hampton Court | The gardens of this palace of Henry VIII are as rich | in their seasons as any in England. The visitor can | also inspect the Tudor Kitchens, the Mantegna Cartoons | in the Orangery, the Great Vine. . . He can solve in | the open air the gentle puzzle of the Maze. Green Line | Coaches 716, 716A, 718, 725. Buses 131. 152. 201, 206, 216, 264 and, on summer Sundays, 14, and 27. Trolley- | buses 604, 667. Hampton Court is also visited on the London Transport Conducted Coach Tour to Windsor. | St. Albans | is the city for the historian. He can explore the Norman | Abbey; in Verulamium he can meet the Romans on | their own ground.
