The lid and front of this decorated cigar box show the Taglioni Coach, which was a private vehicle owned jointly by the Earl of Chesterfield and Count Batthyany, both members of the Richmond Driving Club. The coach took its name from Marie Taglioni, the most celebrated ballet dancer of the time; its door panel was painted with a portrait of her in La Sylphide. The decorations were copied from popular prints after James Pollard and Charles Cooper Henderson respectively. The sides and back of the box, also based on prints, show Taglioni, another dancer named Pauline Duvernay, and a hunting scene.
