The inscription on the frame provides a detailed account of Quiz's ancestry, his successive owners, the races he won, and the horses he beat. By Buzzard out of Miss West, he was foaled in 1798; among his ancestors were the famous Matchem and Flying Childers. In 1801 he won the St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster, one of the horses he beat being his contemporary Muly Moloch. Most of his victories were at Newmarket. After winning a race in the first Spring Meeting there in 1807 he was retired to the stud of his then owner, Lord Rous.
