This print of Rubens is part of Van Dyck's Iconography, a collection of etchings of his most prominent contemporaries in the world of art and letters. Rubens, the greatest painter of the northern baroque, defined the image of the princely artist for generations and profoundly impacted the way in which later artists attempted to fashion themselves as gentlemen. Charles I knighted Rubens in the Banqueting House in 1630.
