- John Ruskin's The Stones of Venice, published in 1851, was accompanied by Examples of the architecture of Venice, a folio-size publication, issued in 3 parts (with 12 parts originally planned). The 3 parts included 15 plates, with letterpress describing the plates. George Allen's "Library edition" of 1904 added a 16th plate.
Bound in dark blue half-morocco and dark blue cloth.
Manuscript copy of John Ruskin's Examples of the architecture of Venice, by an unidentified copyist. The volume includes the 16 original printed plates that accompanied this text in George Allen's 1904 "Library edition" of the The works of John Ruskin (in volume 11). The work is extra-illustrated with 43 related illustrations, including many colored photographs, and a few engravings. The plates from the "Library edition" of the work include photogravure reproductions of the original illustrations. The text is copied in a very neat, skillful hand, in pen and black ink. The extra-illustrated material includes manuscript captions, in the same hand. - Subject Terms:
