- Three copies of a print after Birket Foster's "A Morning Gossip" for use in a coloring competition sponsored by the monthly periodical, Girl's own paper, London. One version of the illustration is printed in many colors (by chromoxylography). Also present are two copies of the print for competition, one hand-colored and one uncolored. Instructions are printed in the bottom margin: "This outline impression to be coloured by our readers in imitation of the fully-coloured plate in our previous (December) monthly part. Prizes of ten and five guineas respectively will be awarded to the most successful copyists. Examiners: Mr. Birket Foster and the editor. Last date for receiving the work is the first Monday in May, 1889." In the top margin of the print is a brief blank form in which the competitor may provide her name, address, and signature of a parent, minister, or teacher for certification.
