BAC: British Art Center copy binding executed for Jean Grolier; "Io. Grolierii et amicorum" stamped in gilt at foot of front cover. Bound in contemporary brown morocco, tooled with Renaissance pattern of two frames of gilt and blind fillets, small gilt ornaments at the corners of the inner frame; a broad Venetian gilt frame of interlaced scroll tooling encloses the large central panel, which contains in the center two interlaced squares of gilt and blind fillets. Title stamped in gilt on front cover; Grolier motto ("Portio mea Domine sit in terra viventium") stamped on back cover. Spine has raised bands. The binding is not described in Le Roux de Lincy-Shipman.
BAC: British Art Center copy includes illumination in gold and colors in the Aldine anchor on the title page and the large capital letters at the beginning of each book. Countermarks and watermarks measure 36-39 mm. From the library of Louis-Alexandre Barbet (1932 sale, June 13-14, item 63); autograph of A. Barbet on the title page. With leather bookplates of Cortland Field Bishop and Hannah D. Rabinowitz.
