Vol. 4 bears the imprint: "Strawberry-Hill: printed by Thomas Kirgate, 1771"; it has no edition statement, but is numbered "Volume the Fourth and last"; the Advertisement to the reader is dated on p. x: October 1, 1780.

BAC: British Art Center copy imperfect: lacks some plates. Extra-illustrated by Sir James Winter Lake. Walpole's text has been trimmed and inlaid to size onto larger sheets of paper in order to accommodate the addition of numerous illustrations of different sizes on the interleaved blank pages. Most of the approximately 150 extra-illustrations are engravings. Volume 3 includes two watercolor drawings by Alexander Marshal: St. George and the dragon (a copy of a painting by Raphael); and Head of an old woman. Volume 5 (A catalogue of engravers, 1765; Folio A N 83) and the two watercolors by Marshal are also cataloged separately. - Subject Terms:
