Nearly all volumes in original parts, some with printed wrappers (only 8 lack wrappers). 13 volumes in contemporary half calf. Spine height: 8 7/8 inches. Red cloth slip-cases; some maroon and some black leather labels with gold lettering and gold lines on spines. 158 slip-cases. Frontispieces, illustrations throughout, plates, folding plates. Two copies of volume 5, one bound and complete, one in original parts, lacking pt. 25. Two copies of volume 42, one bound, one in original parts, both complete. Various inscriptions throughtout. Spine height: 9 3/8 inches.

Oct. 1792-June 1846 numbered as v. 1-107; v. 51-75, Oct. 1817-Apr. 1830 numbered also as new ser., v. 1-25; v. 76-100, May 1830-Dec. 1842, also as new ser., 2d ser., v. 1-25; v. 101-107, Jan. 1843-June 1846, also as new ser., 3d ser., v. 1-7. Later volumes unnumbered.
Absorbed in 1846 the New sporting magazine, the Sportsman, and the Sporting review. Title-pages bearing these titles were published for the whole period until 1870 but the text was in each case that of the Sporting magazine for the same date.
Issued with each number of the magazine, which was throughout its life divided into two volumes a year, was a supplement which was paged continuously throughout the year and in the set here catalogued was bound after the last number of the second volume. This was entitled successively: 1792-1845, The Racing calendar; 1846-1866, The Turf register (July-Dec. 1853, The Turf calendar); 1867-1870, The Racing and steeple-chase calendar. - Subject Terms:
