The noble arte of venerie or hunting : VVherein is handled and set out the vertues, nature, and properties of fiueteene sundrie chaces together, with the order and maner how to hunte and kill euery one of them. Translated and collected for the pleasure of all noblemen and gentlemen, out of the best approued authors, which haue written any thing concerning the same: and reduced into such order and proper termes as are vsed here, in this noble realme of England. Attributed in error to George Turberville; actually an English translation and adaptation of Jacques Du Fouilloux's La venerie (1573) by George Gascoigne, named as author of the poem on A3v. Cf. Halkett & Laing (3rd ed.) N113.
"The translator to the reader" dated June 16, 1575.
Signatures: pi² (-pi1) A⁴ ²A-M⁸ N⁸(-N6+a²) O-P⁸ Q⁴ [dagger]².
Partly in verse.
Printer's and publisher's names from colophon at foot of leaf P8v; publication date from STC.
Running title reads: The booke of hunting.
Leaf N6 cancelled and replaced by bifolium signed "a".
The last two leaves contain bugle calls.
Usually bound with an edition of "The booke of falconrie or hawking" by George Turberville, to whom this work is sometimes attributed (e.g. by Podeschi).

Includes 48 woodcut illustrations within text; those on pp. 90, 95 and 133 include depictions of Queen Elizabeth I.
Printed throughout in black letter type.
