- The author's original plan included a 4th part, "Histoire et archéologie des missions", followed by a bibliography. This part, announced as v. 3, and the 5th and last part of the atlas have apparently never been published. Cf. L. Hachette et cie Catalogue lit. gén., 2d pt., July 1869 and James Jackson's Liste provisoire de bibliog. géog. spéciales, also British museum catalogue, and Sabin. Bibl. amer.
The atlas contains plans, facades, architectural detail and illustrations of some furnishings of the missions built by the Jesuits. Several plates show the inhabitants and costumes. Includes a plate showing the harvest, preparation and use of mate tea. Also included is a portrait of Aime Bonpland.
BAC: British Art Center copy bound in contemporary quarter calf and marbled boards.morocco labels. The half title of v. 1 contains the author's signed presentation inscription. The atlas is unsewn sheets, as issued, in four parts; includes the oginal printed wrappers for each part and the publisher's portfolio with printed cover label and cloth ties. - Subject Terms:
