Instruments include rulers, dividers, and compasses. The set may have been used by engineers, draftsmen, artists, or mathematicians.
The wooden case is lined with blue velvet. The box top and instruments are inscribed "F.H.C.", presumably the initials of the original owner.
Also present but probably not originally included in the set are: a tatting hook; a folding wooden rule; an ink stick bearing Chinese characters.
