Field notebook of an unidentified inspector for the North Eastern Railway, with related printed matter laid in. Some of the manuscript and printed material includes diagrams. Notebook topics include: Gauge of road; Back heel chairs; Spacing of sleepers for 45'0" (and 30'0") rails; Table shewing radii of curves; Stretcher rods, round and flat; Chairs for long winged crossings; Standard load gauge; Standard platform clearances; Standard short rails required in curves; Lengths of leads etc. for 95 lb.
