The set comprises: 12 color pencils, sharpened but minimally used; 1 glass bottle of "Fotocol" (now empty); a small bundle of "cotton wool"; a wooden stick (11 cm); an instructions booklet, printed in color ([4] pages); two uncolored gelatin silver prints; all housed within a printed cardboard box.
The booklet explains the "method of application" in 11 steps. The procedure includes a delicate application of the "Fotocol" liquid to lightly moisten the surface of the photographic print (with the stick and cotton swab), after which colors may be applied with the "Lakeland" pencils, before allowing the image to dry for 24 hours. The colors may be applied only to photographs with a matt finish. The booklet bears imprint: "Printed in England by Mark & Moody Ltd. Stourbridge."
Each of the 12 color pencils is stamped in gold: "Made in England. Cumberland Pencil Co. Ltd. 'Lakeland' No. 22-[1-12]"
One of the two uncolored photographs depicts a basket of seven kittens; the other depicts a windmill. - Subject Terms:
