- Notes:
- The two images on the present jug reproduce portions of two paintings by George Stubbs, now in the collections of the Yale Center for British Art: Two Gentlemen Going a Shooting, with a View of Creswell Crags, Taken on the Spot, ca. 1767 (B1976.7.85); and Two Gentlemen Going a Shooting, 1768 (B1976.7.86). The two are part of a set of four paintings by Stubbs, which were in turn reproduced as a set of prints (engraving, with etching) by William Woollett, under the title "Shooting," 1769 (see YCBA B1985.36.1445 and B1985.36.1446). The two etched designs that have been transferred to the sides of the present jug, however, are significantly different than Woollett's prints. It is unclear if Woollett was involved in their production.
