Richard Williams, servant to George Romney, maintained detailed accounts and notes of day to day events for the whole of the painter's career. The present daybook, with 12 pages of entries for sitters, framing, and payments, from November 30, 1794 to August 24, 1796, would appear to be the last of the series. It seems to have been unknown to Ward & Roberts, who conclude their transcripts in the catalogue raisonne at December 31, 1795.
The entries detail payment for work, the making of copies and their destination, and the loan of pictures for copying by third parties. The volume also contains the following: a list of household utensils (dated December 24, 1795); Romney's accounts with James Poole, the supplier of artists' materials, from October 13, 1794, to December 31, 1796 (5 pages); a list of professional models with their addresses and notes of their uses; a list of tradesmen, including Mr. Roth the drapery painter; and a list of household bills & expenses from November 4, 1794, to July 20, 1796 (6 pages).
