Notes:
Contemporary directories record the firm of Day and Martin as manufacturers of waterproof Japanese blacking, at 97 High Holborn (London).
Front of the card features an image of three men (and a dog) hunting, with a punning caption: "A useful trait. Brown: 'Feet wet? Why didn't you use the Japanese Waterproof Polish, made at 97, High Holborn? Coat of it wouldn't hurt your dog Tray.' Jones: 'The dog! What for?' Brown: He'd be so useful to fetch and carry--a sort of Japanese Tray, you know.'"
