- Bound in in late-18th or early-19th century reversed calf with blind tooling; reinforced with 19th century gilt leather bands.
Manuscript notebook of color recipes, instruction on gilding books, and advice for painters, by an unidentified compiler. The notes are written within a miscellaneous account book, with most of the account entries crossed through. An earlier 12-page gathering dated 1767 has been stitched onto a page, and this also contains color recipes, names of pencils &c., advice on etching and materials to use; and a note on the first page is for a bill delivered to the Hon. Wilbram Tollemach, Jan 7th, 1767. About 45 pages of the main volume contain recipes--the remainder being struck through accounts--and it is well used, with entries arranged at random on the pages, and many signs of constant use. - Subject Terms:
